You may be entitled to get off your ass and vote

Have you or someone you love suffered from unnecessary kidnapping or denial of habeas corpus?

Have you recently felt terrorized by your own government? Lost your job because some weird billionaire on Ketamie unleashed a gaggle of lonely little nerds to ‘cut waste’ in organizations they couldn't give the definition of, much less understand job function within? Have you lost your health care benefits because yet another weird billionaire needs a tax break? Do you feel concerned that rural hospitals are folding like so much origami because their funding has been slashed?

No?

What about lying awake at night trying to imagine the fear and discomfort of fellow human beings in cages for no reason other than the color of their skin? What about the fact that more than a thousand children have been ‘lost’ in the shuffle of this maniacal herding of anyone who doesn’t fit the current standard of what an American should look or sound like? If a thousand children disappeared from your city, would you care? Would you wonder where they are?

Here - try this - have you increased your acid reflux medication exponentially to avoid the bile burning off your tongue completely when you watch the mouthpiece for this foul bringer of death stand in front of the masses proclaiming ‘Christianity’ and wearing a gold cross to ‘prove’ it?

Are you the least bit concerned that our armed forces are being turned against the public at the whim of an anorexic power-freak who spends more time preening in front of a camera for photo-ops than she does knowing where her purse containing her security clearance government credentials is? (Here’s a hint: it’s on the floor of a restaurant, being infested by radio active roaches.)

If any of these conditions apply to you, you may be entitled to get off your ass and vote.

That’s right. You can cure a large number of these issues by simply putting forth the effort to register to vote, educating yourself on the candidates and actually doing the damn thing.

Squeaky Tanks did not win this election because more people in the country agree with his insanity. He won because of apathy. He won because a whole lot of people (90 million-ish) who could have helped avoid this tragedy didn’t take their responsibility to vote seriously.

You’re damn right it’s a responsibility. Rights don’t come without responsibility. Learn it. Know it. Practice it.

Every single time you think, ‘man, this is so cool to be able to do this,’ remember that it comes with a responsibility. You don’t just get to be happy and have fun for free. That’s not the deal. You participate, you educate and you build. And that’s where we failed.

Get your ass out there and vote. Vote in the local elections, vote in the state elections, vote in the damn national elections. Because as evidenced by the current situation, everything you enjoy as a free American is at jeopardy if you don’t.
