When you find out how much it sucks to be the minority

I’d like to thank the trolls for an epiphany.

Verily I say unto you, social media is a swampland with few benefits beyond an unlimited supply of cute cat pictures and recipes that never turn out as promised. As with any swamp, every great once in a while there will be a flash of light caused by a huge buildup of rotting detritus creating a gaseous explosion. For a brief moment there will be light in the smelly, dank darkness. These lights have been attributed to everything from aliens to Great Granny’s ghost but in reality they are rot experiencing its last blast of festering energy.

I freely admit to wallowing in the swamp willingly. No one forces me to post or respond (except my other four personalities and we’re not talking about you, are we, Janice, Leah, Simone or Fritz?) So be quiet and let me finish this piece inspired by decay.

Short background segue: I live in a blue county surrounded by a red sea. The ‘radicals’ apparently nest within the city limits of Dayton, although I have never met any of them. Dayton was once a blue-collar kingdom of folks who gave 25 years to the manufacturing plant they started at when they were 18 and could rely on the benefits of a good union retirement to supplement their social security when the time came. This city was built on the backs of working people, ‘First in Flight’ ain’t something a city sitting on their ass accomplishes. We working folk in Dayuhhn.

The plants have closed and the retirees have had to fight tooth and nail for their benefits even though they completed their part of the bargain. They made the cars, and cash registers and home appliances the American public has enjoyed for all these years. I can sympathize with their anger in having the same companies and government renege on the deal after they got what they needed. I respect that.

What I don’t respect is the misplaced anger they have against immigrants and political parties who support lawful immigration. It tells me they don’t understand where the real problem lies. It tells me they are scared of all the wrong things and actually making things worse for themselves in doing so.

As I was swimming around in the swamp last night looking at posts from our local ‘No Kings’ demonstration, I made the grave error in judgement of reading some of the Facebook comments on one of our local news outlet pages.

“You should march down the street putting in job applications.”

Ok, one, the event was held on a Saturday afternoon and while I know we’re a 24/7 world these days, not a lot of spots conduct that kind of business on the weekend. Restaurants are busy, it’s peak hours for retail and most office settings are closed. Two, I’d say at least half, if not more of the crowd I saw were old enough to either manage their own work schedule or be retired. And three, why? Why would you assume people who are speaking out for the rights of migrant workers don’t work? Did you miss the part where most of the ICE raids are happening in businesses with people working in them?

“I didn’t know the circus was in town.”

Sweetie, it’s not. It’s in the White House and was attending a pitiful example of flagrant fuckery on Saturday. That was the circus. It was also a disgusting way to treat the military. Once again, the turnip-in-chief disrespects those in uniform. He is a disgrace.

“I’ll bet it smelled great.”

Darlin’, we were in Dayton by the river, it smelled like Dayton by the river. Your comment is bizarre at best, but we have duly noted that you are very sensitive to smells. Bless your heart.

The best, and my favorite nomination for ‘dumbest thing anyone has ever posted’ award: “Funny, we didn’t act like that when Biden was president.”

Uh, no. Y’all stormed the capitol and killed police officers. You’re damn right you didn’t act like we do. You acted like a bunch of frothing savages. And what was it you suffered so badly during that tenure that would force you to the streets? A rising economy? A falling inflation rate? The legal deportation of 4.4 million undocumented immigrants? I am still trying to wrap my head around what it is that you suffered. Did anyone unleash the military on civilians or spend a gabillion dollars to golf and have a shitty parade? Nope. No they didn’t. I can’t help but think your suffering is contrived simply because Joe Biden wasn’t a Republican and that’s possibly the stupidest thing you could ever be mad about.

But you do you. Because I’ve figured out why you’re mad. It involved math, so you know I’m serious about it. I had an epiphany much like a swamp gas explosion brought on by the rot of your insipid comments.

For the first time in your lives, you are a minority

. Not just in the United States, but in the entire world. Your small minded bullshit is no longer widely acceptable. Now you are the one who must closet and it’s absolutely killing you. An estimated 85% of people IN GENERAL do not agree with what’s going on in the USA. We do not believe this man is fit for the title and we are tired of paying giant sums of money for his fuck ups.

Be ye not afraid. I can promise you the liberal left is not plotting to give your children sex changes. We’re too worried about the leader of our country following basic fucking laws that are 250 years old, for heaven’s sake. We’re fighting for you, too. And we will keep doing so.
