Hilarious read, Wendy. Love the nostalgia. I’d been living in a farm town two years by 1976. Only vague memories of all the bicentennial hoopla—too busy being isolated out in the country. Doing chores.

I’m having trouble erasing the ball sack image from my brain, thank you.

Childhood in the 70s was basically chlorine, transistor radios, no supervision, and one aunt who made summer feel enchanted. A Pinto with no AC, pool mermaid clubs, perfect feathered hair, and the occasional horrifying cutoffs incident. But the holy part is Aunt Nina showing up every day and turning ordinary swimming into a memory that still glows.

I remember hanging out at the gut. Parked in lots up and down the street, music blaring and everyone pushing to be noticed. My sister had it easy. I wish I still had the photo of her in short shorts, a cigarette and laying on the hood of her white Camaro.

I love this. I was a new dad, and newly married at this time. It all sounds very familiar to me.

I hated that commercial as a kid 😆 now it's stuck in my head like a damned depilatory demon

Everyone wanted to look like Farrah Faucet, huge feathering curls that looked awful. And prell shampoo in glass bottles. Did you drop a pearl in one?

I remember feathered hair. Mind you, I never 𝐡𝐚𝐝 feathered hair, because I was a fuckin' 𝑑𝑜𝑟𝑘.

Everyone else had it tho. And a big comb stickin' outta your back pocket.

But...I did have a Wings t-shirt & played the shit outta that Silly Love Songs 45. And all 6 sides of Wings Over America too, come to think of it...

I cackled so loud reading about the cut off shorts and the twins 👯 making their appearance lol 😝. I almost peed. Speaking of Nair, I loved Baby Soft and Jean Nate, Jean Nate also. You are a frigging hoot 🦉!!!! Don’t pollute 🤣🥂

Ugh, I remember Luv's Baby Soft. That stuff was ubiquitous when I was in middle school in the mid-late 70s. It was like the tween girl version of Axe Body Spray. (I hated it, by the way. I preferred sharp, citrusy scents like #4711.)

I think Loves knew we hated it and they tried to switch it up to a white bottle and it wasn’t very pleasant either lol. Remember the little lip stick samples the Avon lady would leave? Lol 😝

There was another scent I liked, called Green Apple. It was bright green, came in an apple shaped bottle, and may have been by Avon?

I had an aunt that 𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒅 in Jean Nate. Lort, it was gross. Like, c'mon, you're an old lady already...

I am convinced that's a scent only a certain number of people like. I love it still. But I wouldn't bathe in it!

My grandmother had me bathe in it I have always been an old lady inside lol I remember the bottle

I had just graduated high school in 1975. It was one of the best years of my life, living in a house with a huge pool, I had so many "friends" I was never alone. I don't recognize myself in photos with my hair so long. And the clothes! tube tops and hip huggers. Oh to have that body again. Moved into NYC a year of two later and indeed had one of those Dorothy Hamill haircuts. Thanks for the memories! Those were the days.
