Wendy, I live in a very red area of California and I understand your apprehension. My property abuts a main road through the city, and I have a 25 ft flagpole. I have been flying "liberal" flags since 2020. Biden/Harris/BLM/Ukraine etc.
At first the screaming curses and honking were unnerving. Then came the eggs and garbage over the fence. July 4th is always a bit scary because these morons aim their illegal fireworks badly. One especially angry guy kept sneaking onto my property and stealing Harris signs and leaving *rump crap. Always late at night, and always avoiding the security camera. The worst was awakening Nov 6th to discover he'd painted **UMP in 3 ft tall dripping red letters along my back block wall. NGL, that shook me.
But here's the silver lining. For every angry scream or loud honk, there's happy little toots and thumbs up. I've lost count of how many times people have knocked on my door and said "Thank you for flying your flags." I get nice letters and thank you cards in my mail. We've noticed in the last 2 months that the heckling has disappeared. Completely!
What I'm saying is you are living rent free in some asshole's head and that is a SUPERPOWER! Someone wants you to shut up, which means you are getting to them. KEEP IT UP. I think you are smart to pursue the FOIA and have an attorney just in case, but my gut thinks you are being harassed by someone local who's buds with PD.
Anyway, sorry for the long response. Keep going, bullies hate being mocked!
Wendy, anyone who speaks out like you have been doing on Substack, which is where I found you, is brave. Being out there speaking truth has reason to fear under our present reality. Fact in point, men with guns and no names given but wanting to ask YOU stuff is scary, disturbing shit. It messed with your BP and your peace of mind. I would be worried about you if you were la-di-da about it. Keep digging and take help of journalist friend. I’m a naturalized citizen and have started carrying around my wallet size passport. Years ago my older brother told me he ordered one and I thought, how cute. I’m an idiot. So pre-Covid I ordered one. And Trump 2.0 I carry it with me. I’m have no illusions that it will make any difference. I kinda imagine a scene where as masked men approach I hold it up at them like a cross to vampires. 🧛
Stay safe. Breath. Keep the faith. I’m glad I found your Substack. 😊
Have you uploaded your Driver's license to any apps you use like YouTube or Spotify? That's another way you might have been harassed. Generally FOIA requests end up in court and you shouldn't believe they are being honest about disclosure.
It's 2025, not 1939. OK is using federal agencies as his own Gestapo to intimidate and silence his critics. Meanwhile, here in the UK, the unknowing majority has elected a government comprised of mostly imbeciles. I'm sure our chancellor failed her primary school arithmetic - there's no other explanation for her lack of competence.

You’re a hero. So courageous. Thank you for your activism and resistance.

It IS bravery when you’re scared but you keep walking through it.
